The participation of Chernihiv municipal Duma in organization the aid to militaries and their families during World War I

The participation of Chernihiv municipal Duma in organization the aid to militaries and their families during World War I is studied. In particular, the attention to monetary payments to families of mobilized employees and employees of municipal institutions, establishments accountable to them, and the enterprises of municipal property is paid. It is mentioned that despite the economic crisis, public administration found resources to pay families half earnings of people taken away to the army. For St. George’s Cavaliers children were created favorable conditions for admission to educational institutions, they also got scholarships. The author pointed out specific features of accommodation in the provincial center of military units, providing premises with heating and lighting; it is emphasized that the state delayed payments for military needs, which led to difficulties for the local budget. The process of attracting Chernihiv public administration to work in the All-Russian Union of Cities, initiated to help the wounded and sick soldiers is revealed.
